BIL DOG. PEPPER. THIS IS WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO DO THIS MONDAY MORNING. WHY ARE MONDAYS AND THURSDAYS THE HARDEST DAY TO GET UP?
MZ KITTY OUR NEIGHBOR CAT IS EXPLORING. GO GET THOSE MICE, MOLES BUT PLEASE LEAVE THE BUNNIES ALONE.

The day I saw Mz. Kitty taking a bunny almost as big as herself home to proudly show her owners, I knew they would not be happy with that prize.

The reason for the picture is that I am slowing decorating the 200 year old oak stump with a sun mirror. The last day the humidity was this low, I painted the top and sides a soft light gray. I left about 3 inches at the bottom and I plan to spray that black and then add rocks. I had put a round pine tree wheel in the middle to raise the sun's face.

This poor tree was not cut deliberately but out of necessity. During one of the TN lighting and rain storms, a big bolt of lighting hit and it also made some marks on the bricks on the side of the garage. The electric service had to co ordinate with the tree cutters as our electrical line had to be detached to fell the tree and then reattached to our home.

I really miss this majestic tree as it kept the kitchen and my flower bed out back cool and comfortable. I have moved most of the hosta to another shady area but not all and their leaves are showing the effects of the hot summer sun.

I was wondering if any of you had any ideas on the decoration of the sun stump?
The kitty justice is it would be great if you shared.

Sorry no ideas from me. But, I’m glad you are saving the old stump. Too bad the tree had to be cut, but that is the reality of life that is not always easy to take. As you know I love trees too and it would have been very hard for me to cut this old gal down even though I love running a chainsaw. I have cut down many hazard trees over the years, I’m no expert but I do have to say I like the challenge of it.

Lady Di,

The stump is beautiful and I'm glad you're decorating it rather than having it pulled out. Stumps are great garden decor and I look forward to seeing this when the project is complete.

Stumps look great with clematis or another creeping plant growing around them. Just let your imagination soar.

We lost part of our big tree in a storm this year. I'm hoping we don't lose any more of it. It certainly keeps our bedroom and kitchen cool in summer and protects the roof from wind and snow in winter.

Take care and have a great week.
Blessings,
Mary

It would still be standing if lighting had not damaged it so badly. When Puppy was in third grade and the children were collecting different leaves, he proudly carried a 23 inch oak leave from that tree.It was the biggest leaf brought to school.

Mary
I might be a little dangerous if I let my imagination run amuck. LOL.

Peace to you both.

Dear Dianne ~~ I love the tree stump and it is so huge. I would probably put pots of hanging geraniums on top.
Thank you for your nice comment about the pic of Connie and myself. The wrist is fine and we leave it for now. Take care, my friend, Love, Merle.

Hi Lady Di, I think a large shallow planter (container) shaped like a saucer and filled with Succulents would look lovely perched on the stump. would make a great feature in the garden...
im just starting a new container of succulents in a pt like i suggested its terracotta colour to contrast with the plants..
