This is one of the posters on the wall at the Darrell Waltrip Honda dealership in Franklin, Tennessee. It shows the cars and the years he drove them. The images of him are not very flattering because if you google him you can see he is a much better looking man than these images.
1989 Daytona trophy. Does anyone remember Darrell's dance that day? The next 4 photos are some of the trophies you can see at his dealership.

I will try to give a little background of the driver, Darrell Waltrip. He was born February 5, 1947 in Owensboro, Kentucky. But Tennessee claims him as one of the best assets of the state. As a Nascar driver he won three Winston Cup Championships in 1981,1982 and 1985. He had 59 career pole positions and 84 wins in Winston Cup races. His biggest win was in 1989 the Daytona 500. To those who do not know, Daytona 500 is like the super bowl of racing. In the 70's he was not liked by most of Nascar fans but they got over that and he won the most popular driver in 1989 and 1990. I love when the Nascar races are on Fox because you get to be entertained by the colorful commentary of Darrell Waltrip. He not only has the quick wit and charm but the knowledge to inform the audience.
The kitty justice is I have not been fortunate enough to meet him, but those who have will tell you he is a genuine nice fellow.

I'm delighted to learn from your post not only about Darrell Waltrip but also about your interest in car racing.

In my teens and twenties, I was at the drag strip watching the drag races. My Dad always liked Nascar and now Prince does and I do too. You never hear a scandal in racing like you do in other sports. Most of the driver are family men and are very ethtical.
To this day there is nothing better than to hear a big block egine run. Peace
We are Winston cuppers from way back---well NASCAR now.
Thanks for all trophy pics. How neat to see a dealership so close. You will meat him one day.
When Dave and I were dating (many moons ago) Friday and Saturday night would always find us at the race track. MB
