As I was waiting for the floor installers to get the kitchen floor done, I started reading old cookbooks. I thought this was really neat to see this 1938 cook book. Check out the little bride and grooms on the front cover. Also how about those typewriters and telephones the ladies have. The ladies were on the inside cover.
How about a recipe from 1938?
CREAMED ASPARAGUS AND CARROTS IN PASTRY SHELLS

2 1/2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
1 1/2 cups milk
3/4 to 1 teaspoon salt
Few grains of pepper
2 cups sliced cooked carrots
2 cups diced cooked asparagus
6 baked pastry shells

Melt the butter in a double boiler, add flour and mix well. Add the milk gradually and cook, stirring constantly until thickened. Add salt, pepper, carrots and asparagus. Reheat. Serve in the warm pastry shells.

The kitty justice is the term "few grains of pepper" is just darling and I bet they want you to use Sealtest milk.
