End of the day, End of the Year

Maggie had played with company, family and new toys all Christmas day and finally she laid down and took a well deserved nap.
The Kitty Justice is we will now sleep on 2012 and awake to a brand New Year. Let us all try to have a HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY ONE.

Trees at Cheekwood

Each tree was decorated using a Christmas Book theme. I thought this one was in the prefect place outside in the cold.
When I came back inside, I saw I could capture the whole area except the grand piano which sit in the corner opposite the tree. Below is a photo of the tree as I looked up at it's shining decorations.
The whole Mansion was very festive and I wonder if yawl can guess the Book titles or you could enlarge the photos to try and find the book.
The Kitty Justice is I will not be back until next year. Therefore,
I wish you a Merry Christmas without cat hairs And
A Happy New Year without "Cat Fuzzies"

The Pope is coming to town.

This photo was taken last year during The Pope's visit. Every Christmas we spend a day together and Puppy thought for a long time that Santa was really a 4'10" lady from Georgia. She is my best and oldest friend and I look forward all year to this visit. It seems Christmas just really does not begin until she arrives.
Yesterday I went to an EDA to help with the thing I rather not talk about (Diabetes) He gave me a thumbs up as I am doing really good. But I am sure the test will show I have been really bad as I have fallen off the wagon several times during the start of the Holidays. Starting with Thanksgiving, I have not been followed all the guidelines. After my Burpday, I will become stricter with my diet and exercise. But darn I must have my Coconut Cake for my Burpday. Mother always made me a fresh coconut cake and she would grate the coconut by hand. So that cake brings back fond memories.
Yesterday was a gorgeous day with spring like temperature, so I spent the afternoon doing something for me. I went to see the Trees at Cheekwood. Yes, I will post some photo later but today, I must begin to get ready for my favorite visit of the season.
The Kitty Justice is The Pope's visit ranks higher than Santa Claus.

Fruit Cake

I cooked a dozen fruit cakes this year. This is a photo of the last batch and the recipe makes six nice cakes. I made the photo before I soaked them in Jack. It is best to chill before you cut or it will crumble. Puppy stirred the stiff batter for me which was a GRAND help. It takes 2 days from beginning to end,  to complete the process of baking these cakes. Puppy has a real appreciation for cooks who make fruit cakes to give away. As he was working to stir the flour into the fruit, I told him I liked to give homemade gifts because it was like giving the people a little of myself.
I made a close up so yawl's mouth would water. As my friend Wordy would say "No self respecting fruit cake would be made without whiskey." I know this is the time of year to make jokes and tales of fruit cake lore.  The Kitty Justice is not to judge a fruit cake until you taste mine.

Three Trees

The first tree as you enter our home is the little glass one that sits on the left side of the table in the hallway. The other side holds the Nativity which I displayed in a previous post. The beautiful bell music box was given to me this year by my dear friend, Peaches. Yep, the same one who painted the Angels.
The second tree can be seen as you enter the living room. It is a Rosemary tree that Prince was told by the tree to take it home to me. It was a wonderful surprise and I dearly love it's aroma. I have a tendency to run my hands over it each time I get near.
This is our Christmas tree this year. If you enlarge it you will see the bow carries the ornament theme just like the skirt. I came home last week from a luncheon to find that Puppy had gone an picked out the tree and put it in it's stand all by himself. Saturday,I decorated the tree and will turn  on the lights every day until the Holidays are over.
The Kitty Justice is a question "Will Santa leave me a present under each tree?"

Stuff Animals

Years ago Prince when he was on a work trip to Minnesota he found and  brought this black bear to Puppy . He sits in the living room year round but sports a bow at Christmas.
Our first Christmas together, Prince gave me this white Christmas bear . I found the beanie baby while looking for some Christmas items after Christmas one year and thought he would make a nice addition .
Each year I put out the Christmas tree that Zera Cotton made me when I lived next door to them. I lived by myself with 2 Chow chows and she and her husband, George, adopted me and we had lots of fun times together. They both are no longer with us but wonderful thoughts are given to their kindness and love each year as I sit this tree out near the fireplace. When Puppy was a mere toddler, Mother gave him the reindeer and it walked and the red nose would blink while it played "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer."It does not work anymore but just like the  tree it is placed near the fireplace so loving memories can be had when I glimpse  in that direction. Aunt Jean gave Puppy the Christmas Scooby and that darn Sam Cat stole it last night. He usually takes the doll box or bunny but Scooby must have been too tempting this year.
The game has begun. Sam steals an animal and I take it back the next morning.
The Kitty Justice is "Do you have a game you play with your animal? Notice I did not say pet because he will never be my pet as I am the one who takes him to the vet.

Across from the red trunk

This table sits across from the red trunk and all I added was a golden owl and a Angel ornament. The Angel tile was painted by my friend, Peaches and everything stays the same all year long except those two ornaments. My painting of Mz January hangs above this table.
The Kitty Justice is there is enough red to reflect the Christmas spirit.

Red Trunk

Back into to hallway we go to see some more decorations. Over the hurricane candle, I placed a white yarn wreath with silver decorations that was given to me by the Pope (my best friend from GA.) I added some silver beads and two silver tree decorations along with a red Santa, tree and a colorful glass ornament . The little bears asleep in their bed was a present from Prince on our first Christmas together. Please enlarge to see them better.
The Kitty Justice is to decorate with special things to bring back beautiful memories of others.

Simple decorations

Puppy gave me the candle stand years ago and I have it in the living room all the time, SO
I decided to make a simple Christmas decoration using the candles. I draped some gold beads around the candles and placed the stand into the large glass plate and proceeded to put Christmas tree balls all around the candles' stands base.

Newest Snowman

My sister gave me this Snowman last year for Christmas. He is nice addition with his red bird and bird house. Look's like he belongs on the hill.
The Kitty Justice is to get snow so we can build a real one.

Nativity Scene

When you walk through the front door you encounter this Nativity Scene. I have a glass vase with turkey feathers behind the scene.
The Kitty Justice is this is what Christmas is all about yawl.

Driveway Flamingos

They are not as bright as when they were  new
But they still protect the wall from driver like you
The UPS and Fed-X trucks are a must this time of year
However the wall has nothing to fear
These pink birds stay guard at the top of the drive
As you navigate the curve as you back out alive
What should we name these trusty Sentries  of the wall
Maybe NO, NOT YET, ABSOLUTELY AND DON'T FORGET
I have heard whispers that they are quite tacky
But you will not run over them true to the fact-ky
The Kitty Justice you see is to protect my wall
So wishing you cheer but behave one and all.

Holly Tree

This is the lone Holly Tree out front. Notice the oak leaves caught by it's branches. We also have 4 large Holly Trees out back.
We were told by our neighbor on Jackson's Hill that she had Cedar Wax Wings at her place.
The Kitty Justice is for those birds to stay over there until I pick some Holly to use for Christmas.
BTW A flock can eat all the berries in 2 or 3 days.

The dinner bell

This is the first year that I have decorated the old dinner bell. I used the garland and white poinsettias that I have used on the front door in the past years.
Each New Year's Eve at midnight, Prince will go out and ring in the new year.
The Kitty Justice is it can serve as a Wedding Bell today because today is Prince and Kitty's Anniversary.

More of the outside

I usually try to get an angle that has the sky behind the rake but that highly decorated car was parked in the area, so I had to work to keep it from showing up in the photo.
Prince found both the rake and seeder abandon in a ditch on the farm and brought them up to the hill for me. The rake I knew was there but the seeder was a grand surprise.
The Kitty Justice is I am a true recycle gal and I was doing it before it got popular. Copy Kats.

Christmas Red

What color do you associate with Christmas? Mine is RED.
I wonder when this seeder was made if they thought someday, a lady will use it for yard art and decorate it for Christmas.
The Kitty Justice is everyone should have a festive color for Christmas.

Moe's tree

I put Moe's tree on the old sewing machine to the right of the front door.
I added a close up of the front door which shows it's true green color.

The Kitty Justice is the cat who adopted me should have a little tree.

The Front Door

I only put out two wreaths and the sleigh bells on the front door this year.
The Kitty Justice is the less you put up, the less has to come down.

Prince's Surprise

Prince came in last evening with not one but two surprises. Are they not beautiful?
The hall now is very festive with the huge basket of poinsettias.
The Kitty Justice is my Prince is always so thoughtful.

The Car

I was outside today taking photos of the few Christmas decorations that I have put outside and Puppy's friend came to visit.
The Kitty Justice is he will never loose his car in a parking lot.
