The USS Drum

Today is Prince's Burpday .  He was totally in his element the day we spent exploring at Battleship Memorial Park. He is standing on the submarine the USS Drum.

Both Puppy and Prince went down and explored the sub but I stayed on top soaking up the nice pleasant day.(Give me fresh air and open spaces) This sub had to surface each night to get air. That must have been a time to be concerned and have nerves of steel.
The Kitty Justice is I like water but do not wish to be in a small egg under the water. So yep, I admire the crew of this and other subs. If'n I had to be in a sub well I would be more nervous than a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

On the USS Alabama

I am eye level with the feet rest for the gunner.  I can only imagine sitting there and shooting at the enemy. I hope you read the plaque on the previous post as to where and when this ship was used.
Puppy looking out to see how the gunner would feel. He and Prince went all over the ship but I was only able to climb 3 or 4 ladders and then I realized I would have to go down or take up residence. Puppy suggested I go down backward and hold on with both hands on the railings and that is what I did and it was easier that way.
After getting back on the main deck, I told them to keep exploring and I would just hang around on this deck. There was a wonderful breeze which kept it from being too hot to just stroll around this deck.
I walked by those big guns and onto the very front of the ship. This is a photo looking back from where I had strolled. Everything was so BIG. The chains going down each side of this deck had links that made my feet look like miniatures.
Inside the main area were lots of blue prints and factual information on the ship and I could busy myself reading as they were exploring. I will try to remember what I read about these guns. There were 26 men that operated each set of these guns. Each gun had three stories. The first one had elevator system that took the ammunition up into a second story. Finally the ammo would reach the third story where they would be shot at the enemy. The range was over twenty something miles and I am sure the damage was tremendous. As I read about the guns, I could only wonder about the men who were on each level of the guns.
I thought of a story that Mr. Corlew told me one Spring evening years ago as we sat and waiting for Puppy and his Grandson to finish soccer practice . He said he worked below deck and during one battle he came up to see what was happen and he said the sky was black and it was a horrifying scene. One I am sure he never forgot while alive.
I told his daughter one day that I enjoyed talking to him about the war, and she look rather taken aback when she replied "Daddy doesn't talk to us about that. You probably know more than we do."
The Kitty Justice is to have all school children learn about the wars which have given them the freedom of choice.

Upon Arrival

When we got to the Hotel, each guest had a gift bag with 2 waters, 2 packs of chocolate chip cookies, 2 Advil (this made me LOL) and a four page book with maps drawn for all the events.
The Kitty Justice is that some of the guest needed more Advil than was given. LOL
BTW- we did not have to use ours.

Mobile 2

After we got to the Hotel and checked in we went in search of someplace to eat dinner. We walked down Dauphin Street and found Wintzell's Oyster House.  I have tried oyster before and this time I had them fried (STILL NOT A FAN) I had the sampler platter so I did not go hungry as a matter of fact I could not eat everything. Prince and Puppy had the fresh catch of the day which happen to be Red Snapper. Both thought the meal fish was outstanding.
As we were walking down Dauphin Street we came across a public park and the light was hitting the water in the fountain  just right so I snapped a photo. There were about a dozen firemen there while the homeless were being fed a nice hot meal. As you can tell on the building below, most of the structure are Old and older. The street are very narrow as was the case for the time Mobile began. The street where my Nephew and his new bride will live is harder wide enough to pass an on coming car. The city has a yesteryear Southern charm and it would take several days to explore and see all the wonderful old buildings.

After our large meal we took a brisk walk back to the hotel . Besides the darkness was falling rapidly and the hotel was like a beacon (the large pointed building) calling us back to a nice cozy bed.
Puppy went out with the younger crowd while fairy tales danced in our heads.
The Kitty Justice is neither Prince or I had to be rocked to sleep .

Japanese Maple

LOL If you needed to mount a horse from the horse block, my tree would have to be cut back or the block moved.
It had rained and you can see the rain drops on the leaves and they are a pretty red when spring coaches the leaves to appear but as the season goes along, well as you can tell by the following photo they become green.
The Kitty Justice is to enjoy the color until it blends in with the other green surroundings.

Mother Day Plants

This is a Plumosa Fern. Prince picked it out as as he had not seen one like this. Enlarge the close up below to see the feathery fronds. It is as soft as it looks. Since it is suppose to have shade, I put it out in the corner under the Hickory Tree.

This is the Begonia that Prince got us the same day he got the fern. I have it just sitting in the pot but will plant it when the afternoon shade is available.

I posted this photo earlier because Puppy gave me four Salvia plants to put out front and they will come back year after year.  I was happy to get Mother Day plants early.
The Kitty Justice is that all the Mothers out there in Blog land have a wonderful day and I hope there are some flowers for you to enjoy.

Plants at the bottom porch

Wednesday I spent ALL day outside in the plants, weeding, cutting back, re-potting, placing the potted plants in their very own space for the summer. My Hosta, Japanese Iris, and Peonies are doing fine in their home below the Holly Trees.
We had a walnut tree very near the porch and when it was cut down, I use the stump to place this very large plant. I only had to remove two of the lower stems this year.

I have hit a button that has made it impossible to move the photo of the white barn. Notice how green everything is from the porch. If you look close you can see some feathered friends behind the barn.
The Kitty Justice is while I worked outdoors Wednesday, the Turkeys kept me company in the yard above the windmill.

Wednesday Morning

The fog had not quite covered the hill tops yet but then it rose and covered Bellevue.
The dark cloud on top with bright blue sky in the middle and the foggy bottom was a sight to see.
The Kitty Justice if you painted this it would be out of perspective so we will leave God to paint the sky.

Little Brother's Day

I was six years old when he was born and I had reigned as the baby of the family and I was not looking forward to him invading my world. We lived on Alfred Mark's farm (BIL to Al Gore Sr.) and the ambulance brought Mother down the hill and behind it was Amanda C Marks, Alfred's wife carrying a big straw basket with a yellow blanket in it.  I was excited to see what the hoopla was all about a baby boy and I ran to the ambulance and only Mother was inside. I wanted to see the baby and Mrs. Marks laughed and said come over here, he is in the basket. She pulled back the blanket and I peered over the edge to see the red squalling baby. My first thought "I can not believe everyone is so happy to have this red, ugly, loud, squirming thing come live with us."
The Kitty Justice is he is still 2 out of the 4 but I would not trade him for anything.

Nashville Skyline

When I went to see the doctor last month, I took my I Pad to past the time. It was another one of those gorgeous days and as I walked back to my car in the parking garage, a thought dawn on me to go to the top of the garage and take some photos with my I Pad.
The Kitty Justice is I got some wonderful photos of the skyline.

Flowers, flowers everywhere

The clematis by the garage is in full bloom now.
Puppy went out and got me 4 Saliva plants to put between the box wood out front.
The UPS truck that backed over my snowball bush did not kill it but it is bent over toward the seeder more than it should. When it happen last year, the whole bush was on the ground. I gently tugged and pulled until I righted it as much as possible. I was worried that it would not make it.
However, it is full of those fluffy white balls. When Puppy was about six, I had a snowball bush out back and I never will forget him showing up on the porch with this huge bouquet of snowballs for me.
The Kitty Justice is flowers with memories are the best.

This year

The Iris are just beginning to bloom really good. I think this year we will have more blooms than any year before.  These are my favorite flower for Spring and I just love the lace like petals and the shape is a true delight.
The Kitty Justice is my favorite is the state flower. Hows that for being a True Tennessean?

Natchez Trace Bridge

I had just turned off Highway 96 onto the entrance to the Natchez Trace and I thought need to take a photo of the bridge. Therefore I played tourist.
After I crossed the bridge, I stopped at the overlook on the opposite side. You get a better view in the winter.
Since it was such a pretty day, I decided I would walk to the middle of the bridge and take a few photos.
I started on my left and slowly turned right. The above and below are from the left side of the bridge.

I then walked to the other side and the photo and the next two are on the right side of the bridge. The Highway you see is the one I had been on before I took the Trace.

The dark spot on the right side of the photo is the overlook where I stood to take the second photo.
Instead of taking the Trace home, I got back on ninety six and stopped at the first road to get one more photo of the bridge before heading home.
The Kitty Justice is no matter whether you are above or below a good picture can be had.
