Christ Church Cathedral

These photos were taken several years ago (about 15). I had gone downtown to a tire store to have some tires put on the Silver Bullet. It was gonna take awhile so instead of waiting, I walked the downtown streets and played tourist.  I really had forgotten about them.
I stumbled upon them yesterday as I was consolidating some items in my closet. Not a fun job, but as the old saying goes "Someone has to do it ". With my darling pack rat family which is a good thing if you like history but other things just get in the way. I made a collage out of several photos and in the upper left corner shows the Frist Museum and the Union Station. Also a street lamp in the lower left corner that I found interesting.
Here is a little history about the Episcopal Christ Church Cathedral. It was founded in 1829 and the main building by architect, Francis Kimball was completed in 1894. The tower was completed in 1947 and the architect was Russell E. Hart. It is located at 900 Broadway and became the Diocesan Cathedral by designation in 1997. The facade faces South in this sandstone Gothic revival style Church.  Great Uncle Owen and his wife Great Aunt Byrd were members and they later help start St. Georges Episcopal Church. I will try and get a photo of the plaque sometime honoring Aunt Byrd. I have only been in the Church one time and I must admit I was too busy looking around to remember the service. They have a tour weekly and that has been on my bucket list awhile.
The Kitty Justice is as soon as I can tie my walking shoes I may wonder downtown.

It is a beautiful old building. I am glad you have the history on it too. MB

The last church I was was a Christ Church. It wasn't a cathedral, but it was a huge building. Unfortunately, the congregation had gotten quite old and worship attendance was usually less than 40.

Husband and I cleaned out a rather large closet today. It is incredible how much "stuff" we have (had)...and we shake our heads and wonder why we even kept some of the things we came across. Needless to say, we decided that if we haven't used it in 10 years, we probably didn't need it. We sorted items to donate and other items to dispose. What a task!
The buildings are lovely. To be able to be near them and be able to visit and explore them is wonderful!
Hugs to you and wishes for a fantastic upcoming week.
Hugs,
Jackie

I'm glad you stumbled across these forgotten photos, Lady Di.

Interesting history about the Cathedral.

Be careful of that back of yours while you're "someone has to do it" chores!

Glad you enjoyed one of our Churches. Peace

When I went the place was overflowing and folding chairs had to be added. I have heard the services have gotten quite Modern and it is still thriving. Peace

It is amazing how much "STUFF" we put back but alas if some of this stuff had been tossed we would have lost a lot of history of the family. Sometimes it is good and sometime it is bad. If you have the time go back and read Cuden Mary Lu and Cuden Will on August 23, 2007. They had the saving gene almost to hording. Peace

It is rather fun to stumble across things forgotten and they can jar the memory bank to open up drawers that have been sealed off so it could carry current data. I am still being careful and hope to see the doctor to see if something can be done. This has happen twice in six months and that is not a good thing. Peace
