I was standing in the corner of the breakfast area looking toward the cooking area. Remember we have a sliding glass door on the right so the color looks lighter.
Kitchen area looking into the hallway.
I am standing in the corner of the kitchen area looking toward the breakfast area.
Standing in the front hall looking into the small hallway to the kitchen. The stool was put down to keep traffic off the floor until it was sealed.
From the dining room looking through the bar area to the small hallway. These photos were taken Friday July 15 Th and it was not finished until 8:15 PM Friday July 22 ND. Needless to say at that point I was a very UNHAPPY KAT. My fur had been rubbed the wrong way.
It took us Saturday and Sunday to get back into the kitchen and laundry room. I was told it was a 3 day job and it turned into 9 days. The biggest stress was we had COMPANY COMING.
There is a small issue about a tile by the back door going into the garage and as soon as that is done, I will be a happy kitty. The floor is absolutely beautiful and the colors go well with all the colors in my kitchen.
The Kitty Justice is I felt I was in the Cool Hand Luke movie and there was a FAILURE TO COMMUNICATE.

Looking up the hill at the driveway. We call this the turn around.
A closer look of the guard birds. I found these at TSC and they were marker down half price.
Looking down the drive at the Guard Birds.
Another close up of my four pink beauties. Every time a BIG TRUCK comes up or down the hill, they have a tendency to take the easy way out and run over the wall. I was tired of the abuse so I thought what would catch your attention. Well, I hope this will help.
The kitty justice will be if these Pink Birds keeps the wall safe.

This little jewel was published in a very good year, 1950. I adore the artwork. Maggie and I eat a banana almost everyday and if they get too ripe, I have a never fail Banana Bread recipe. However, I have a killer Banana Pudding recipe. I have never had Banana Scallops so I must try those. The kitty justice if they are any good, I will publish the recipe.

This is the front and back of the Pet Milk cook book. Do any of you remember the programs listed on the bottom of the back cover? I loved the Red Skelton Show and was lucky enough to see him when he came and preformed at Orpyland. He did not use any profanity and he was so funny that when I left the building, my face literally hurt from laughter. The kitty justice is they just don't make them like him any more.

Don't those biscuits and stew look yummy on the cover of the 1944 cook book?
A quick list of what you can do for conservation states "Conserve, Conserve, Conserve!" This is on the back of the cover page.
In the middle of the book on pages six and seven, shows a group of handsome Americans with the title "MILK IS PRECIOUS AMMUNITION DON'T WASTE IT! There are two recipes NOODLES CHEESE PUDDING and CUSTARD SAUCE which can be made when you squeeze the bottle dry.

On page nine, Dr. H. A Ruehe of the American Butter Institute in Chicago writes "MILK --NUMBER 1 ON THE FOOD LIST." He also writes "Nutritional planning has pointed out very clearly that the dairy cow is the most efficient converter of vegetation into foods of animal origin." He goes on to state "The dairy cow works 24 hours a day, day in and day out, hot or cold, wet or dry. And it will not be her fault if there is a shortage of her precious product." He also suggested that an authority had said an adult should have a quart of milk a day.

The kitty justice is I am not fond of getting milk on my whiskers.

This old cook book did not have a date anywhere. Prince checked the internet for Number 66 and found it was in the forties. On pages four and five  in giant letters across the top is printed "Eat a Better Breakfast....a good start for a Good Day." That is still true because to get your motor running you need fuel.
Here is a forties recipe.

1/2 cup sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 cup cornmeal
2/3 cup milk
1/4 cup butter, melted
2 eggs,separated

Mix and sift flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Stir in Cornmeal. Add milk and butter to the beaten egg yolks. Add to dry ingredients all at once, mix well. Fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake on a hot waffle iron. Serve with butter and syrup. Yield: 3 large waffles.

The kitty justice is I need a waffle iron because we put our frozen waffles in the toaster. I do have one of those old crank sifters, do you?

As I was waiting for the floor installers to get the kitchen floor done, I started reading old cookbooks. I thought this was really neat to see this 1938 cook book. Check out the little bride and grooms on the front cover. Also how about those typewriters and telephones the ladies have. The ladies were on the inside cover.
How about a recipe from 1938?

2 1/2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
1 1/2 cups milk
3/4 to 1 teaspoon salt
Few grains of pepper
2 cups sliced cooked carrots
2 cups diced cooked asparagus
6 baked pastry shells

Melt the butter in a double boiler, add flour and mix well. Add the milk gradually and cook, stirring constantly until thickened. Add salt, pepper, carrots and asparagus. Reheat. Serve in the warm pastry shells.

The kitty justice is the term "few grains of pepper" is just darling and I bet they want you to use Sealtest milk.

A new kitchen floor is being laid this week. I wanted a nice transgression from the tile in the hallway to the kitchen, plus I have blue walls with a wooden bead board and chair rail and stainless steel appliances. They are suppose to finish up today. Yeah! This is Dura tile and after it is finished I will post a photo.
In this photo you can get a better idea of the look from hallway to kitchen. I still have the sample square in my car and will return it when I finish paying for the floor. The first kitchen floor lasted about 24 years, the second floor lasted 22 years and now we hope the 3rd floor since it is tile will last even longer.
The kitty justice was the kitchen floor was already scheduled before Mimi had her episode. She has PT three times a week for six weeks, so it is like grand central station on the hill.

I got the above photo in an email and it made me lol so I hope it does the same for you.

Mimi is home and getting stronger daily. We will have some home health for awhile until her strength returns.
Man it is gonna be HOT in the south today. With the heat index here, it will feel like 104-110 degrees. Yesterday afternoon our thermometer in the kitchen read 103.1 but that was not the official temperature for Nashville. They should measured it on the hill. Tomorrow we are suppose to reach 100 degrees with a heat index of 110 or more. Yikes. It is not time for dog days of summer yet.
Wasps anyone? I got rid of 10 nest EACH at our house and the cabin yesterday. Fastest can in the south. One of the buggers stung Prince so their time Up in my book.Just call me Kitty Terminator.

This photo was taken in April and you can see there are no flowers on the porch. (NO I have not washed the back porch windows yet.)
Mimi had another episode on July 6th and the paramedics took her to the ER at St. Thomas Hospital. She spent a couple of days and returned home yesterday afternoon.  Puppy was not here to help me, so Edward met me and got Mimi into the wheel chair and back to her room. She is weak but each day getting stronger. She will have home therapy again for a few weeks to help her get her strength back. She is an independent lady so I am sure with her determination she will get back to her normal self.
The kitty justice is that all family and friends need to work around her schedule.
Here are the instructions today.

Going down the hill on I-40 west heading back to Nashville from the lake.
Looking off one of the five bridges at the Caney Fork river on our way home.
Puppy and I had a work day at the lake so we can play later. We cleaned up the pontoon boat which was no easy feat. We also took the replacement linens to the cabin on the lake to replace the mouse eaten ones.
It was a nice mother and son day and we accomplished quite a lot.
The kitty justice is it reinforced the fact that I HATE MICE and BUGS AND SPIDERS.

Instructions for the day.
60. Admit your mistakes.
61. Ask someone to pick up your mail and daily paper when you're out of town. Those are the first

62. Use your wit to AMUSE, NOT ABUSE.

BTW The 2 most published trials O J and that Woman had a verdict of "NOT GUILTY".

First Amendment

Congress shall make NO LAW  respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise, thereof: or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people to peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

The kitty justice is that the present government would not have written this as the founder of our country.

BTW  The following words should be written down on paper and buried in the ground to never be used again.

I feel that those who have fought for our freedom would not appreciate those terms. However, I could be wrong.

Instructions for today begin with
57,Make the best of bad situations.
58. Always accept an outstretched hand.
59. Live so that when your children think of fairness, caring and integrity, they
       think of You.
60. Admit your mistakes.

Last two weeks have been window washing time on the hill. I started with 2 large and 4 small windows in the family room downstairs. Plus these had wooden storm windows on them that Puppy  had to take down and put back in for me as they are extremely heavy.
Next, I did the 8 large and 9 small windows in the front. After the weekend and rest, I did all the bedroom windows and two bathroom windows. All of these were only done on the outside so I still have the inside to go.
Next week, I will spend time washing the windows along the upper porch. Since the whole back is sliding glass doors and big windows which run the entire length of the porch, it will take at least a couple of days to do those. Then  and only then will it be time to do the insides.
The kitty justice is I plan to put the large fan out on the porch and to keep me cool.
More instructions from H. Jackson Brown Jr.'s book.
49. Buy vegetables from truck farmers who advertise with hand-lettered signs.
50. Put the cap back on the toothpaste.
51. Take out the garbage without being told.
52. Avoid overexposure to the sun.
53. VOTE.
54. Surprise loved ones with little unexpected gifts.
55 Stop blaming others. Take responsibility for every area of your life.
56. Never mention being on a diet.

Outside the front door on the right is a large hickory tree that I surround each year with plants I pull out of their winter homes in the basement. The Peace Lilly is blooming.
To the right of the hickory tree at the corner of the house under the eve, I added a little color with the caladiums.
In front of the hickory tree is a patch of blue plumbago. I love the tiny blue flowers.
Across the driveway from the end of the house stands this old faith plant.
In front of the box wood I have Gopher Purge growing but it does not seem to do the task it was advertised to do. I still have moles and each of those seed pods will explode and thousand of plants will come up the following year. Wish I had never planted these because I spend a lot of my time pulling the seedling up.
Out of all the plants I ordered last year, this is the only one that survived. Pretty Blazing Star. I was smart and ordered nothing this year.
This is a ground cover that one of Mimi's friends gave her from her house on Signal Mountain. I have no idea what the name happens to be.
This pot of either Fish or Prayer sits under the two big box woods out front and can be seen from the inside of the house.
Looking across the driveway from Puppy's sidewalk. You can see the group of Blazing Stars with my Sage plant behind it.
A new ground cover that I am trying behind the box woods out front which can be seen from the hallway.
This is out of order. OOPs. This is one of many of the Cannas at the end of the house.
This is my Rabbit foot fern which sits in a big yellow rock just left of the front door in behind a big box wood.

The kitty justice is the outside container plants add to flower beds.
