LITTLE BROTHER
THE PRETTY ONE
With my tomboy haircut and looks you can see why Sis was always referred to by family and friends as the pretty one.
It was not my fault that I was a tomboy but my parents. Yes, I will blame the parents as most kids did then and now. Both of them wanted a boy and had a boy's name picked out and my Mother even cried real tears when I was born "A GIRL".
The Doctor was so out done with them he told Mother "If you do not want this healthy baby girl, I will just take her home with me".
So you see for nine months I was program to be a boy and then before little brother came along, I had to try to live up to their disappointment.
I never ever really cared for dolls but each Christmas there would be one under the tree. I wanted something to play i with in the dirt. Since I did not get fun items, I took my Grandpa's little animals as toys. I played for hours with baby chicks, little rabbits and goats. Also frogs, which I would take pins and cloth to put diapers on because Grandma said if they peed on you, you would get warts,
I hated to stay inside but would sneak out whenever I got a chance. I ran with abandonment as I did not have any hair to hold me back.
I remember when little brother was brought down the hill by Mrs. Marks in a basket with a yellow blanket, I could not believe everyone was so excited to have this screaming red face thing in the house. I was so jealous of him. I pretended to be sick so I could sleep in the bed with him and Mother.
Here was a real boy and all my efforts had been for nothing. Tomboy verse real boy loses every time.
Now I was faced with a real problem, Sis was the Pretty One and Little Brother was a real boy. What could I do? I decided to be the Smart one.
I worked really hard at it and graduated from the eighth grade the third in my class, then in High School I was on the honor roll and was number ten in my class, which was the last number to get to wear a gold rope tassel around your neck over your gown at Graduation.
I was not lucky enough to have parents who wished to send their children to college, they thought high school would do so I worked during the day and went to school at night. Yes I made the Dean's list several semesters. Those were very long days but being young it was no big deal.
The Kitty Justice is I am happy that I was not the Pretty One nor Real Boy but back behind the mayo, I still hear them say "Oh, she is not the Pretty One " and feel the disappointment of the parents. I know it is in the Past and either forget about it or learn from it.

you had annd guess you still do. Forget the past, it's gone and you have a good life now, concentrate on that. Glad you liked the Item in my post and sent it on. It's 1:30 am
so I must get to bed. I don't get up until about 8:30 or 9.
Take care, my friend, Love, Merle.
People, parents and others can be so thoughtlessly cruel at times.
But like the phoenix you rose above it all. :)
Just like a sports car I just changed gears and ran in another direction.
With comes appreciation of oneself and I would rather be me than anyone else.
